Senior Showcase Week Is Here!

Senior Showcase Week is upon us!  Every year, representatives from colleges and universities from around the United States come to Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.  Dance seniors interview with and perform for these reps through a series of master classes and main stage performances.  The week concludes with a college fair which is open to all BTWHSPVA students.

If you have not already signed up to volunteer or bring food items needed for this week, please do so asap as we need everyone’s help!

Senior Showcase for the Dance Department officially kicks off on Wednesday with a series of master classes for seniors.  Any remaining spots will be offered to Juniors first. After that, if any spots remain open, Sophomores and Freshman will be offered an opportunity to participate.  Wednesday’s activities conclude with the Portraits Concert, a showcase of senior dance solos, at 7:00pm.

On Thursday, seniors will again participate in master classes followed by a special showcase performance of An Evening of Dance in the MAT at 7:00pm.

On Friday, seniors will participate in regular classes in ballet, modern, jazz and improvisation with college reps observing. Seniors will then be given an opportunity to meet individually with the colleges.  Friday concludes with the college fair from 4:00-6:00pm.

Please keep our seniors in your thoughts during this exciting but stressful week!

PB&J Day Volunteers Needed!

November 7th is our next PB&J Day.  We are urgently in need of chaperones to help with the day’s activities which include: morning tours of the various museums in the Arts District, lunch outside of the Winspear Opera House and an afternoon of JAM featuring performances by each cluster in Annette Strauss Square.  The Dance Cluster will be paired with the Music Cluster this time.

The Dance Cluster is in specific need of volunteers for dance students.  If you have signed up through the PTSA call for help, please notify your class rep immediately.  If you haven’t signed up, please contact your class rep today.  Ideally, we would like parents that could volunteer the entire day but we also have the following shifts available:

AM SHIFT: 9:00-12:45 and PM SHIFT: 12:45-4:15

Please include your Parent Name and Contact Number when signing up.

PB&J Days are named after our school’s principal founder, the late Paul Baker (PB…the J stands for JAM!).  Students are given the opportunity to participate other areas of the performing and visual arts outside of their cluster.
